The 12 Critical Steps to
Sustainable Self-Care

Lesson One: Acknowledgement
Acknowledge that self-care is meaningful and important for your development, happiness, relationships, and performance.

Lesson Two: Worthiness
You are worthy of a life full of balance, belonging, meaning and joy.

Lesson Three: Vulnerability
Allow yourself to be vulnerable and try doing things differently, with a focus on making healthy choices in your thoughts, behaviors and actions.

Lesson Four: Assess
Be curious about patterns that don't serve you and keep you emotionally distressed.

Lesson Five: Reflection
Explore your patterns, share them with someone else, identify how these things cause you harm and clarify the cost of continuing to engage with them.

Lesson Six: Let Go
Develop a ritual to let go of old patterns, unhealthy perspectives, and emotional baggage that no longer serves a purpose. Engage in the letting go ritual.

Lesson Seven: Make a Plan
Make a plan to transform maladaptive patterns to ones that support you in making healthy choices.

Lesson Eight: Inventory
Take a personal inventory, identify what cost you (and others) had to pay for you not taking care of yourself.

Lesson Nine: Amends
Make amends to yourself for the past harm lack of self-care has caused.

Lesson Ten: Data Tracking
Develop an ongoing data tracking routine, as to better assess for and acknowledge maladaptive behaviors when they start.

Lesson Eleven: Engage
Identity and engage in activities that support you in liking your best life, be part of the community, share with others how self-care has impacted you. Help others grant themselves permission.

Lesson Twelve: Compassion
Embrace compassion for your imperfect human self, and share compassion for other imperfect humans.
